On this month’s episode of the Valor Voice it is our pleasure to have on Melanie Rouse, Coroner for Clark County, Nevada. Melanies academic credentials include a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Colorado State University and a Masters of Arts degree in Psychology/Criminal Justice Studies from University of the Rockies. Melanie Rouse is a Fellow with the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators (ABMDI) and certified as a HAZMAT operational level responder for Weapons of Mass Destruction. Additionally, she is a Doctorial Candidate for a Doctor of Public Administration Degree from Liberty University.  Melanies professional career includes working as the Coroner for Clark County, NV. Prior to this her coroner role in Nevada, Melanie was the Chief Medical Investigator/ Manager for the Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office. She also previously served as a Supervisor for the Investigations division, and in the position of Mass Fatality Coordinator/Emergency Management Specialist. 

 Melanie has served on various different committees including being the chair for the Mass Fatality/Continuity Planning committee and the co-chair the Safety Committee for Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office. In which I was responsible for planning for and responding to Mass Fatality and Surge Fatality events and addressing safety measures within the department. Melanie was responsible for the oversight of continuity planning, emergency management and the development and implementation of training and exercises. She is currently on the Board of Directors for the International Association of Coroner/Medical Examiners (IACME) and I am currently the Chair of the Ethics Committee.  Melanie is also a member of DMORT (Disaster Mortuary Response Team). This is a federally based team that responds to national disasters where mass casualties and mass fatalities occur. She serves in a number of different capacities in federally declared disasters.
